Learning to Work with Our High Self

Spiritual Response Therapy trains us to work with our High Self. This part of us is infinitely wise and infinitely loving. The High Self, once we learn to tune into it, guides us patiently and effectively on our soul's journey and brings ease and joy to our lives.

Now that is a very attractive proposition, isn't it? Who doesn't want ease and joy? So we embark on our spiritual journey to meet and work with our High Selves. It is only then we begin to realize the degree of our attachment to our ego minds.

Recently I had two such interesting calls....

There was Bob who had the toxic energy between himself and his deceased father cleared with SRT. They had a very contentious relationship while he lived.  The toxic energy was dissolved. The energy shifted significantly.  Then Bob's High Self directed Bob to do some conscious forgiveness work for his Dad as well as for a living sister.  At this Bob was upset. He didn't like being told what to do. 'I don't like my High Self going behind my back and doing things without my say so', is what he told me. I asked him to ponder on who was the 'I' who was talking.

In a similar case, Jenny wanted SRT clearing to release the energy of trauma from past abuse. The energy had been cleared and released through SRT by several healers. Jenny however kept reliving her trauma and thereby recreating the energy. Her High Self too indicated that forgiveness work at a conscious mind level would greatly benefit her moving on. Jenny was incensed when she heard that. She was not even ready to consider forgiveness.

So there we are folks. Our ego selves love to be in control, to call the shots even if it means misery. The High Self always unfailingly shows the right path. Bob slammed the phone down on me when I pointed out that the 'I' was his ego self. Jenny went off looking for someone else to 'fix' her problem.

Working with the High Self is not for the lily-livered. First of all it needs acceptance that there indeed is higher guidance coming through, it needs commitment to spiritual work and most of all it needs courage to quieten the familiar voice of the ego and let the High Self speak.

And when we are able to do that, the wonders of life come rushing in bringing with it ease and joy.

Cement Around My Legs

Mira is one of the most wonderfully loving women I have met. She loves her family, loves living in this city. Her job she says is okay, keeps her going nothing much to complain about. And for some unknown reason, she said, she kept feeling this growing sense of anxiety. Nothing in particular, no specific triggers that she could think of, just this feeling of a 'what if...... ' of the negative kind.

'That is very frustrating', she said. 'At least if I could put my finger on it, I would be able to address it. This nonspecific sense of doom is just tying me down. I can't move forward. It is as if someone has poured cement around my legs without my knowledge and it is solidifying'.

There is a very simple spiritual truth around feeling this way. I reminded Mira of the saying 'if Spirit has brought you to it, Spirit will see you through it'. There is a greater intelligence coming through telling you that you are ripe and ready to embrace your spiritual self, your deeper persona. There is infinite wisdom in you waiting to unfold to show you the way out of those cement blocks, The old ego-centric, fear based formula of navigating the world is over for you. Time to open up to a whole new level of being. And it is time to learn the new rules of the game.

'Trust God', 'trust your innerself', 'trust spirit'..... we have heard it said. But how, you may ask. Just like anything else changing our default thought patterns, conditioning, programs and perceptions require a set of knowledge and skills. Do you know what these are?

Mira and I spent a greater part of the afternoon exploring some of these energy based techniques and knowledge. When we were done, Mira stood up to leave. With a huge smile she turned to me and said, ' The cement around my legs are already dissolving. I thonk I am going to love this work.'

The Seven Primary Fears

As I look around I see more and more people stressed, fearful and overwhelmed. The world appears to be spinning faster, and as it does our fears are churning up and rising to the top, to be released no doubt.

Some years ago my dear friend and mentor, Dorothy Cunningham, gave me a lesson on the seven primary fears. Let me share those with you briefly.

The fear of abandonment

This is a primal fear that each one of us holds by virtue of our birth as human beings. It is a reminder of our separation from the source and from the womb. This is not an individual or exclusive fear.  It plays out in our lives over and over again as fear of rejection.

Fear of lack

Resources are necessary for survival. Fear of lack arises out of a mindset that believes that resources are finite. It is based on our memory of physical evolution in which survival depended on control over physical resources. It stems from the ignorance of the fact that the universe is an infinite and all abundant source. This fear plays out in our mentality to hoard and to cling on to things or relationships that have served their purpose in our lives.

Fear of humiliation

This fear is rooted in our lack of self worth - the inability to see value in ourselves. It is the fear of criticism or making a fool of ourselves, because our sense of worth is so dependent on approval and recognition by others. It plays out strongly in our constant need to conform and be socially accepted.

Fear of pain and illness

Pain and illnesses are signals that call to us to change the way we conduct our lives. Till such time we are able to accept this view, we will continue to see pain and illness as random external events on which we have little control.

Fear of aging

Fear of aging is rooted in our judgment that youth is somehow more desirable and superior to age. It is our inability to perceive the richness of age.

Fear of failure

There is no such thing as the fear of failure. It is our fear of success. Successful people have historically been persecuted, ostracized, envied, robbed or murdered. Our collective psyche recognizes success as an unsafe experience. So we camouflage it as fear of failure. And by dwelling on failure we sabotage our chances of success, and actually fail.

Fear of death

Fear of death is really the fear of change. We resist change because there is greater comfort in the known past than to venture into the unknown future. The journey to spirit is a journey into the unknown. Resisting change kills our spirit. The more we fear death, the closer we draw it to us by denying life.

These are our mind's conditioning and interpretation. Once we allow the mind to get a new perspective, our fears slowly melt away and peace returns.

Breanne's Questions

" How do spiritually advanced people respond to horrible things happening in the world, such as the oil spill in the Gulf, extremism, global warming? I will tell you that the way that I respond is to try and avoid hearing about such things because I always think doomsday thoughts and get sad and anxious about bad things happening."

Thank you, Breanne, for articulating a question that is in so many people's minds. Your response is perfect. When there are things going on around us that bring us down it is best to remove your attention from them. That does not amount to denying what is going on, but it is acknowledging that these problems are outside my ability to resolve and dwelling on them merely dissipates my energy. So why do that? Good strategy to protect yourself. Don't let any guilt creep in. The next step is in answer to your next question.

"I hear about how 2012 is supposedly when the human race will become more spiritually advanced and will enter a new era of peace and harmony, stuff like that. I don't see how that's possible when so many things happening in the world right now indicate that we are nowhere near becoming more spiritually advanced."

Actually there is a lot of good going on in the world, quietly, unobtrusively and in a distributed fashion all over the globe. Someone asked the Dalai Lama recently if we as a human race are doomed. His answer was quite to the contrary. He said there is more understanding, more goodwill, more capability now in the world than ever before. Unfortunately good news doesn't sell and so it does not make the news. Bad news is sensational. The Dalai Lama urged the journalists and the reporters to focus on the good news instead.

They may or may not do so. But we can in our immediate circles. If we learn to do that then that expands. It is a law. Wherever we place our attention, energy and focus, we help grow.

2012 will be what it will be, we need not be overly concerned. We just have each to decide for ourselves where we will place our own attention, energy and focus -- on the bad that is out of our circle of influence or the little drops of good that is very much a part of our everyday life and feel grateful about that.

It is really our choice. As Mike Dooley says "Thoughts become things, choose the good ones".

The Seven Minute De-Stressor

For too long we have depended on our minds and have allowed ourselves to veer far away from the heart center. The financial meltdown is just one of the ways in which the energies now seek to come back in balance.
It is causing great stress and distress because the old formulas are no longer working. And we have yet to learn the new.

The stabilizing force is within. When we allow the heart energy to flow again, it has a way of restoring the confidence and security. Be patient.
